Diminishing returns, but still likable

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 7 April 2007 04:41 (A review of Taxi 2)

It definitely suffers from sequelitis. The action is more cartoony, the humor is a bit broader, everythings just more over the top. There's one segment in Paris where I thought I was watchiing the BLUES BROTHERS.

For all that it does deliver car action in spades. Emma Sjöberg and Marion Cotillard are easy on the eyes too, though Cotillard's role is way underwritten.

If you liked TAXI, you'll like the sequel TAXI 2. It's just unfortunate that they threw more up on the screen and still ended up with less movie than the first TAXI, but that's usually the way of sequels.

I guess it sounds like I'm coming down on it; it's definitely worth a watch if you get an opportunity. Maybe someday we'll see a R1 dvd release...

Crazy Stone - Fun cat & mouse caper flic

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 6 April 2007 10:28 (A review of Crazy Stone)

CRAZY STONE is an esemble piece structured like LOCK STOCK & TWO SMOKING BARRELS and SNATCH. You have to pay atttention, but it's not particularly hard to remember who's who and who's got the mcguffin (if you're paying attention).

The disc has a good picture and the subtitles are easy to read and contain no obvious grammar or spelling errors.

Really, it all boils down to cops & robbers. A fun cops & robbers movie.

Justice League Unlimited Season 2

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 4 April 2007 03:12 (A review of Justice League: Unlimited: Season 2)

This set represents the end of an era. For fourteen years the DC Animated Universe (DCAU) ran on the WB & Cartoon Network. The DCAU included Batman The Animated Series, Superman, Batman Beyond, Zeta Project, Static Shock, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited.

This last season of the JLU saw them facing the Legion of Doom ala Superfriends, only done right. Some of the stories of fairly edgy, considering this is nominally a 'kids' show. Honestly, it's as good as or better than some of the stuff that was running on network television at the same time.

Do you need to sit through Batman The Animated Series, Superman, and Batman Beyond to appreciate the show? No, but there's a lot of history there that'll make watching it more rewarding.

If you've bought the other three Justice League discs, buy this one too (as if I'd really have to prod). If not, consider starting at the beginning with Batman, you'll appreciate what you see here much, much more if you do.
